Now Accepting Submissions for the Journal for Advancing Justice Vol. III

NADCP is thrilled to announce that this year, two special issues will be produced under Volume III of the groundbreaking Journal for Advancing Justice. Supported by a grant from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, these special issues will provide research, insight, and policy and practice implications for justice system professionals in two important areas.
Issue 1: Best Practices for Addressing Probation and Parole Violations and Reducing Revocations
Approximately one-quarter of state prison admissions in the U.S. are the result of technical violations of probation or parole not involving a new criminal offense. In fact, most revocations are driven by substance use and mental health disorders. The journal invites articles that examine the target population of individuals facing revocation, use evidence to demonstrate program effectiveness in reducing revocations/returns to custody, outline implementation challenges and solutions, identify best practices associated with better outcomes for treatment-based programs, and more.
Issue 2: Emerging Best Practices for Law Enforcement Diversion and Deflection Programs
Recent years have seen a rapid proliferation of law enforcement initiatives designed to refer individuals to substance use or mental health treatment and other indicated services in lieu of a criminal arrest. While preliminary findings are promising for several models, few adequate outcome studies have been conducted or published. The journal seeks articles that examine these models and provide evidence of program effectiveness, describe appropriate target populations, identify best practices associated with better outcomes, and more.
