What has been your biggest challenge this year? Funding
Has your membership in the NADCP helped your team? Yes, we all went to training conferences and taught at them. We were a mentor court for community policing.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work? Playing with my grandkids, travel, reading, fine arts, theater, music
How has your work in Drug Court impacted your life? It dramatically changed my life on the bench. It's the only thing I miss about being a sitting judge and I sit by assignment in San Francisco's drug, mental health and behavioral health courts and Contra Costa County's domestic violence court.
What has been you favorite NADCP conference moment? The opening in DC which all the different players telling their story and saying, "That's why we have to take drug courts to scale." And when I was inducted into the Stanley Goldstein Hall of Fame.
Tell us about your most memorable Drug Court experience: When a woman said she had never seen her 7-year-old son open Christmas presents because she was either loaded or crashing but that year would see him do so for the first time.
Favorite Quotes Heard in Drug Court: "I want to thank my arresting officer for saving my life," said more than one participant at graduation. "I have my life back."
